THE JAGUAR : KING OF THE PARANA JUNGLE

Its power and ferocity have always impressed the population of all America, creating a confused mixture of fear, respect and veneration. The Jaguar (Panthera onca), the largest feline in America, is suffering from several threats, reducing its population to few individuals. In Argentina, its territory is limited to three corners on its northern borderline, with no more than 200 animals. This is the southern edge the jaguar’s range in America. The Jaguar Project “Proyecto Yaguareté” is developed in collaboration between Argentina and Brazil with the aim to protect the last individuals of the king of the jungle. WORST EXPERIENCES OF WORLD HERITAGE SITES

Every international recognition of a single destination brings its amount of local consequences. On one hand, it highlights and promotes the local destination in the global markets and gives new opportunities for local development. On the other hand, standardization of the heritage and local processes, contamination and increase of social inegalities due to the fast and uncontrolled development are at least as frequent as its positive effects. The « World Heritage » denomination by the UNESCO (United Nations for Education, Science and Culture Organization) is one of these international recognitions. My ambition to be a « responsible traveler » was put to a severe test when it was about visiting some of the World heritage sites, of which many are now totally committed to the mass tourism. In another top list posting, I gave my best experiences of World heritages. Here are my worst ones! Let think about that you may also have a bad experience there.

Brésil et Uruguay Hors des Sentiers Battus

De par ses dimensions continentales et la générosité de la Nature manifestée à chaque coin, le Brésil a toujours été pour moi un synonyme de fertilité et de diversité. Je ne m’y suis pas trompé. Alors que je n’avais même pas osé imaginer un détour par ce côté atlantique du continent sud-américain, j’y aurai passé finalement plus de 7 mois en deux périodes, soit plus que tout autre pays traversé pendant ces 40 mois. Les surprises ont été grandes, les rencontres toujours chaleureuses et les paysages à couper le souffle. Oh oui! Il vous faut connaître le Brésil authentique, bien loin des clichés de Copacabana ou ceux relatés dans les médias frelatés. Plutôt les Brésil(s), car au vue de sa dimension et malgré quelques traits parfois communs, il s’agit d’une mosaïque. Su poderio y ferocidad impresionaron desde siempre a los pueblos de toda América, creando una confusa mezcla detemor, respeto y veneracion. El yaguareté (Panthera onca), el felino mas grande de América esta padeciendo de varias amenazas, reduciendo su poblacion a pocos individuos. En Argentina, esta limitado a tres rincones fronterizos al norte, con no mas de 200 individuos. El « Proyecto Yaguareté » desarrollado en cooperacion entre Argentina y Brasil intenta salvaguardar los ultimos exemplares del rey de la selva.

MISIONES JESUíTICAS-GUARANÍES : UN MODELO DE INTEGRACIÓN?

Territorio guaraní. Fin del siglo 17, llegada de los jesuitas para evangelizar a los nativos. Después del primer rechazo de los locales, ambos eligieron de cohabitar, de convivir en reducciones. Pocos remanentes de las reducciones jesuiticas-guaranies permacen hasta hoy. Son consideradas como un modelo de integración cultural (entre la cultura indígena guaraní y la cultura occidental europea) y de vida comunitaria auto-sustentable.

DOCES FINOS DA IMPERATRIZ PELOTAS

Ao mercado municipal de Pelotas, caminhando pelas suas esquinas vazias de domingo, tive um encontro que mudou micha visita dessa cidade do Rio Grande do Sul. Descubri a loja Imperatriz, melhor promodora dos Doces de Pelotas. Uma mixtura da tradição portuguesa e da influença afro-descendente dos escravos llegado em masa no Sul do Brasil. Ja conheci os doces deliciosos do Portugal, aquelas delicias com gema por exemplo.

À BONITO C’EST ÉCOTOURISME!

Bonito, ce haut-lieu de l’écotourisme, reconnu tant au niveau brésilien qu’international. Ce petit village du Mato Grosso do Sul a beaucoup a offrir aux quelques 250 000 visiteurs annuels. Des sources et rivières à l’eau tant tiède que transparente, une faune exubérante dont une diversité de poissons, des gouffres ou encore des grottes. La physionomie territoriale correspond à de grands espaces dédiés à l’élevage extensif de bovins, et peu d’espaces forestiers. Cependant, les fazendas ont joué depuis quelques années la carte de l’écotourisme afin de diversifier leur activité.
