TOP 5 PATRIMOINE DE L’HUMANITÉ EN AMÉRIQUE

Parmi les 60 sites classés au Patrimoine de l’Humanité par l’UNESCO (19 comme Patrimoine Naturel, 41 comme Patrimoine Culturel) visités au cours de ces quatre dernières années sur la selle du vélo, voici mes favoris :

A la source de l’or brun : Le café de Colombie

On associe souvent la Colombie au café, parmi d’autres clichés, et à juste titre. Depuis la Conquête espagnole, le café s’est imposé comme une culture d’exportation à haute valeur ajoutée. Il a façonné les paysages du centre et du Sud du cordon andin, appelé Eje cafetero ou « région caféicole ».

Mes nombreux détours m’ont amené sur la route du patrimoine cafetier, en pleine saison de récolte. Premier arrêt à la coopérative de Aguadas, après plus de 4600 m de dénivelé cumulé en trois jours de chemin de terre abrupt et caillouteux. Il s’agit d’une coopérative de plus de 1400 associés producteurs d’un produit noble qui a fait et fait toujours la renommée de la Colombie : le café.

Fuente de café, el oro castaño colombiano

A menudo asociamos el café a Colombia, entre otros tópicos, y con razón. Desde la conquista española, el café se ha convertido en un producto de exportación con alto valor agregado. Se ha modelado el paisaje de eje centro y sur andino, llamado « eje cafetero », paisaje y cultura reconocidos como patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO que produce un de los mejores cafés del mundo.

Mis  vueltas cicloturisticas me llevaron por la ruta del patrimonio cafetero, a la temporada de la cosecha. Primera parada en la municipalidad de Aguadas, a la cooperativa cafetera, después de más de 4600 m de desnivel acumulado en tres días de carretera empinada de tierra y piedra. Es una cooperativa de más de 1.400 asociados. La cooperativa de Aguadas, territorio norteño del departamento de Caldas, fue un pionero de la calidad en la cadena de suministro de café en Colombia.

Last Untouched Lands Protection in El Salvador – Not Impossible for SalvaNatura!

The smallest but also the most densely populated country in Central America with 330 inhabitants per km ², El Salvador territory faces the gradual erosion of biodiversity and its natural habitats. Given the lack of involvement of government institutions more concerned by the development of the coffee and the tourism industries, a handful of men and women committed to maintain and protect the 3% of the territory still occupied by natural areas. Here I will present some of the activities of the SalvaNATURA organization in the Impossible National Park.

 

The Impossible National Park is located in the Department of Ahuachapán, southwest of El Salvador, Central America, specifically in the western end of the UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve Sierra Apaneca-Llamatepec and next to the Ruta de las Flores, between the cities of Ataco, Tacuba and San Francisco Menendez. « Impossible »??? Interesting to check out what is going on this special rainforest, one of the last remnant untouched ecosystem of the over-populated El Salvador.

 

Despite my contact with SalvaNATURA in advance to organize my arrival, it was pretty complicated to reach the remote area. It is located between the top of the mountains and the coastal plain, between 250 to 1.425 meters. The road leading to public areas of the park is coming from Sonsonate and going towards the border with Guatemala’s Hachadura (this last was where I came from with my bicycle). The main entrance is in the sector of San Benito, after 13km of very (very) steep dirt road.

 

IMPOSSIBLE by bicycle for sure!  I had to take the slow bus to climb the mountain and arrive in the night at the Park entrance, just enough energy to open my tent in the wild campground, alone!
